The TPM Excellence award is a 3rd-party assessment of manufacturing plants conducted by the Japan Institute of Plant Maintenance. Each year the JIPM opens applications for the TPM Excellence awards to anyone globally who wishes to apply for the assessment. You can find the TPM application infomation on the TPM Excellence Web-site. To apply for the award application, you must first create a free account, with your contact information at this web site https://jipmglobal.com/tpmsyou/login
The rules and detailed applications information can be found in the TPM Excellence Awards Outline which is published each year as the framework continuously is updated. For 2026 you can download the pdf manual here.
This year, the JIPM announced the winners for 2025.
3 World Class, 9 Advanced, 13 Special, 14 Consistent, 30 Excellence Awards.
There were no awards issued to a facility in the United States this year.
Since 1971, over 3000 awards have been announced globally. Over the last 55 years, the criteria have changed from a maintenance Framework to an enterprise-wide manufacturing management system. Only 94 awards have been issued to facilities in the USA from 1971 to 2025. A summary list of USA winners by company is shown in the table below:

Note: The JIPM TPM framework includes 8 foundation pillars, but allows flexibility in the deployment of pillars. Early Management (Equipment & Product) and Administrative/Office TPM are optional based on the organization's scope and functions. If the facility being audited is strictly a manufacturing location with no engineering, product development, or administrative services. The JIPM would review a request not to include the audit scores for the two pillars "Early Management" and "Administration and support."

The JIPM TPM Excellence Awards recognize Individual Plant locations that successfully implement Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) as a comprehensive management system.

When INX International Ink Co. decided to prepare for the TPM Excellence award across all 8 pillars, we already had a strong quality system in place. The TPM Excellence Award was new to us, but we were introduced to it by our Parent company management after they recieved the first TPM Excellence awards in 2004. In the years prior to starting activities for the TPM Excellence award, we had already achieved:
SPC / Quality systems training
Total Quality Management system deployment
Six Sigma with several certified black belts and many Green belts
Lean Manufacturing activities
Quality System certified by ISO 9001 QMS
Environmental System Certified by ISO 14001 Environmental
In the process of pursuing OHSAS 18001 Safety (now ISO45001)
As we pursued TPM activities, we discovered that TPM encompassed all aspects of every program we originally had (from SPC through Lean, and ISO certification), but also helped us build a single, documented, comprehensive system for the entire facility. With the TPM Excellence Award, TPM was the key to unlocking our previous QMS and expanding into true scientific Manufacturing Management.
